Welcome to the Historic Irvington Community Council's
Website. We have monthly meetings at 55 Johnson Avenue inside the Irvington
Presbyterian Church the third Tuesday of every month. You are welcome to visit
our meetings. They are held from 7pm-9pm. We discuss current topics that involve
the historic district of Irvington.
Monthly Letter from the President
Friends,
We had a good number of the members of the Council – you, the residents and
business owners of Irvington at the The Historic Irvington Community Council’s
town hall meeting. And the
meeting was attended by the Mayor, his Deputy Mayors and department heads, the
Chief of Police, the Fire Chief and many others in our City government. The
Superintendent of IPS attended as well.
Last July, the Board established a list of goals developed to guide us through
the year just finished. We went
over those at the beginning of the Town Hall meeting.
One goal was to develop a better voice downtown; to have the ear of City
Hall. We asked the Mayor how we are
doing to meet that goal. His
response was to look around the room; we had virtually all of the heads of his
administration in one place at one time!
Many questions were asked at the town hall meeting.
In fact, there were too many for the time available.
However, all of the question cards were handed to the township
administrator who is making certain all of the problems are being addressed.
That night, we put out a call for members of the board.
At the July board meeting, we added four new board members.
The list of the entire board should be somewhere on this page.
A year ago, we developed the goals to direct the council.
We have attained all but two of the goals and are well on the way to
making those. We have developed goals for the coming twelve months.
One of those is to develop a five year plan for the council.
Do you have ideas on what Irvington should be doing in the next five
years? What you would like to see?
Where you think we should go? Then
come to the next council meeting and give us your ideas as we start to
brainstorm our way through developing this five year plan.
Council meetings are the third Tuesday of each month except December; 7 PM in
the basement of the Irvington Presbyterian Church.
Every Irvingtonian is a member -
come join in with us.
